Cameron Michelle Diaz was born in San Diego to Bill and Emilio Diaz, a second generation Cuban-American. She has one older sister named Chimene.

She started her career as a fashion model at the age of 16. She was signed on with Elite Model Management, a top modeling agency. After a few years, her modeling career took off. She had modeled for big companies such as Calvin Klein and Levi's and had graced the cover of the July 1990 issue of Seventeen magazine. At his period, she also starred in a soft porn film, "She's No Angel."

Despite having no previous acting experience, Diaz landed the lead female role for the Jim Carrey-starrer comedy, "The Mask," at age 21. She then starred in a few more films including "Feeling Minnesota" and "She's The One."

But it was her roles in "My Best Friend's Wedding" and "There's Something About Mary" that gave her mainstream success. She got her first Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress - Musical or Comedy for playing the title role in "There's Something About Mary." She also earned a NYFCC Award for Best actress in 1998 for the role.

And it was her performance in "Being John Malkovich" that critics began praising her work. She also earned a Best Supporting Actress nominations at the Golden Globes, the BAFTA Awards and the SAG Awards for her role in the film as pet-obsessed Lotte.

Diaz was already a household name by the time she was 28. She had starred in big budget films including "Charlie's Angels" and "Vanilla Sky," which earned her another Best Supporting Actress nomination at different award shows. It was when she reprised her role as Natalie in "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle" that elevated her on the same rank as Julia Roberts for earning $20 million for a role.

Diaz famously dated singer Justin Timberlake, whom she met at an awards show in 2003. They announced their split in January 2007.
