Caleb Casery Affleck-Boldt was born in Falmouth, Massachusetts to Chris Ann Boldt, a school teacher, and Timothy Affleck, a former actor with the Theater Company of Boston. His older brother is actor Ben Affleck.

His first film role was in the 1995 dark comedy "To Die For" with Joaquin Phoenix and Nicole Kidman. He starred in "Race The Sun" the following year, which did poorly at the box office. He then appeared in two 1997 films that featured his older brother Ben, "Chasing Amy" and "Good Will Hunting," which was a major hit and had jumpstarted Ben and his friend Matt Damon's careers.

Casey landed roles in box office flops including the black comedy "Drowning Mona" before he took a role in the 2001 remake of the 60s Rat Pack heist film "Ocean's Eleven." The film was a box office success that two more sequels were filmed, "Ocean's Twelve" and "Ocean's Thirteen." Casey reprised his characters in both films.

The younger Affleck then turned to screenwriting, this time, he teamed up with big brother Ben's best friend Matt Damon to write the 2002 film "Gerry."

Casey then starred in 2007's "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford" opposite Brad Pitt. He received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actor and an Oscar nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role for his role as Robert Ford. He then starred in "Gone Baby Gone," a critically-acclaimed film directed by Ben.

He married actress Summer Phoenix in 2006 after dating for six years. They have two sons, Indiana August (born 2004) and Atticus (born 2008).

Casey, a vegan, is actively involved with animal rights group PETA and Farm Sanctuary.
