Daniel Craig was born on March 2, 1968 in Chester, England to Olivia and John Craig. The actor attended Hibre High School and Calday Grange Grammar School. At the age of 16, Craig moved to London to join the National Youth Theatre. Craig graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 1991 and began his acting career staring in minor television roles in England.

Craig gained international recognition playing opposite Angelina Jolie in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider in 2001 and in the 2002 movie Road to Perdition. Craig also starred in the 2004 movie Layer Cake and in Stephen Spielberg's Munich in 2005.

After the announcement that Pierce Brosnan would no longer play James Bond, rumors swirled regarding who would replace him. Daniel Craig had been on the short list and in 2005, he officially signed a five film contract to play Bond, the first film entitled Casino Royale. For his role as Bond, Craig was nominated for a BAFTA Award for Best Actor in 2006 and won a Best Actor Award in 2007 at the Evening Standard British Film Awards.

Production has already begun on the next Bond film, titled Quantum of Solace, which will be released on November 7, 2008.

Craig marred actress Fiona Loudon in 1992, but the couple divorced in 1994. They have one daughter, Ella. After his divorce, Craig was in a long term relationship with German actress Heike Makatsch, and currently the actor is dating American film producer Satsuki Mitchell.
