Daniel Jacob Radcliffe was born in West London, England on July 23, 1989. His parents, a literary agent and a casting agent, saw their son's desire to act when he was as young as five. In 1999, a 10-year-old Radcliffe made his acting debut in the BBC's "David Copperfield." Radcliffe played a young-version of the title character in the two-part televised version of Charles Dickens' novel. The next year, producer David Heyman asked Radcliffe to audition for the role of Harry Potter. Radcliffe was cast, and had two films come out in 2001 - "The Tailor of Panama" and "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone."
Radcliffe continued and continues to portray the boy wizard in all of the "Potter" sequels. In 2006, Radcliffe began to show the world he was growing up when appeared in "Extras" as parody of himself. He also filmed "December Boys," which he perfected an Australian accent for. In 2007, Radcliffe caught attention when he appeared nude in a scene of his play,"Equus." He will reprise the role when the play hits Broadway in 2008.
Primarily as a result of his "Harry Potter" success, Radcliffe has appeared on the Sunday Times Rich List in 2006 and on the young people's version in 2007. With an estimated wealth of Ł17 million, he was named the thirty-third richest young person in Britain. Radcliffe says he spends most of his money on smaller things like books, CDs and DVDs. He is a punk rock music fan. He has also supported several charities, among them Demelza House Children's Hospice and the Tsunami Celebrity Clothes Auction. He is close friends with his "Harry Potter" co-stars Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Tom Felton and Gary Oldman.
