Hasselbeck was born Elisabeth DelPadre Filarski to a Catholic school teacher Elisabeth DelPadre and architect Kenneth Filarski. She was raised Catholic and attended Boston College, serving as an Orientation Leader and the women's softball team captain for two seasons. She graduated with a Fine Arts degree in 1999.

She worked for Puma in 1998 while attending school. She worked for the company after her graduation as a member of its design team.

In 2001, she joined the reality competition "Survivor: The Australian Outback." She became the show's most popular contestant of the season. After her stint on the show, she became host of Style Network's "The Look for Less" from 2002 to 2003.

In 2003, she replaced outgoing co-host Lisa Ling on "The View." Her conservative views and republican position on the show often clash with the other co-hosts, including Rosie O'Donnell and Whoopi Goldberg. Her infamous debate clash with O'Donnell in 2007 resulted in the comedienne's earlier than announced departure from the show.

She married her college boyfriend, NFL quarterback Tim Hasselbeck, in July 2002. They have a daughter, Grace Elisabeth (born April 2005) and a son, Taylor Thomas (November 2007), together.
