Guy Pearce Biography

Guy Pearce, Actor Birthdate: October 5, 1967 Birthplace: Ely, Cambridgeshire, England, UK Sign: Libra

Born in 1967 in Cambridgeshire, England, Guy Pearce emigrated to Australia to live with his family when he was a mere three years old. Five years later, his father, a New Zealand military test pilot, died in a plane crash leaving his English teacher mother to care for him and his older sister Tracey.

As a young child, Guy seemed to have a very clear picture of what he would end up doing as a career. He slacked off in subjects such as math and science in favor of humanities classes such as art and music. Guy joined local theatrical groups at the age of eleven. He appeared in amateur theater productions of "The King and I", "Alice in Wonderland", and "The Wizard of Oz.." He became very interested in bodybuilding in his early teens.

At the age of fifteen or sixteen, Guy won the "Mr. Junior Victoria" bodybuilding competition. Two days after the final high school exam in 1985, Guy began his four-year tenure as Mike Young on the popular Aussie soap, "Neighbours" which catapulted him into a major teen idol. After some measure of television success in "Neighbours" in 1985, and "Home and Away" in 1988, Pearce launched an illustrious film career which included a rock drama, "Heaven Tonight" in 1990. In 1994, Guy amazed critics and audiences with his portrayal of drag queen, Adam/Felecia in "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. This role won him attention outside of his native land. A comical romantic fantasy, "Dating the Enemy" in 1996 was the next project for Pearce who went on to star as the lead in "Flynn" in 1997.

He dazzled audiences with roles in "L.A. Confidential" in 1997, where he starred alongside Russell Crowe and Kevin Spacey, and "Ravenous" in 1999. In that same year, Pearce earned praise for his starring role opposite Lily Taylor, as a bearded brooding musician in "A Slipping Down Life". Both films debuted at the Sundance Film Festival.

Pearce was ranked #17 in E's Sexiest Men in Entertainment in 2002. He fell to #20 in 2003. During the filming of "Factory Girl" in 2006, Guy became good friends with co-star Sienna Miller.

Guy prefers to keep his private life very private. He has been married to his childhood sweetheart, Kate Mestitz, since March 1997. He currently resides in Melbourne, Australia which is also where he married Kate.
