Heather Graham was born to Joan and James Graham on January 29, 1970. She was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, but graduated from high school in California in 1988. The Grahams gave Heather a strict Catholic upbringing, but she now practices Hinduism. After graduating high school, Graham began taking classes at UCLA. After two years, she left UCLA against her parent's wishes and moved to Hollywood to pursue acting full-time.

In 1989 she landed a supporting role in "Drugstore Cowboy," and in 1991 appeared in the cult-hit TV series "Twin Peaks." She gained wider recognition when she played a porn star in 1997's "Boogie Nights." The performance in the film earned her several award nominations. In 1999, she starred in "Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me." More recently, she has appeared on hit TV shows like "Scrubs" and "Arrested Development," and starred in the short-lived "Emily's Reasons Why Not." She has also received critical acclaim for her roles in independent films like "The Guru" and "Killing Me Softly." Graham's latest project is "Son of Mourning," which she stars in alongside Tim Curry and Jesse Bradford.

In 2003, she shot a print ad for Skyy vodka and in 2005 became the spokeswoman for Garnier hair care products.

Graham had been romantically involved with musician Adam Ant. Ant was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and the two split. She dated Heath Ledger from October 2000 to June 2001 and actor and producer Edward Burns from 1998 to 2000.

Graham's younger sister Aimee is also an actress and writer, starring in 2005's "Fellowship of the Dice."
