Mayer attended Fairfield High School until junior year when he transferred to the Center for Global Studies at Brien McMahon High School. Mayer played the clarinet in middle school, until at the age of thirteen he became fascinated with the guitar and never looked back. After high school Mayer attended the Berklee College of Music. After only two semesters of school, Mayer was urged by his friend, Clay Cook, to move to Atlanta, Georgia. Mayer and Cook started a band, LoFi Masters, and played gigs in local coffee houses and clubs. Mayer and Cook parted ways because of artistic differences and Mayer started his solo career. Mayer recorded his first EP Inside Wants Ou, however, he did not experience commercial success until his second EP Room for Squares was re-released by Columbia records. By 2002, Room for Squares gave Mayer several radio hits including "Your Body is a Wonderland," the song which won Mayer a Grammy in 2003 for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. Mayer's second album, Heavier Things, included the song "Daughters," which was Mayer's first number one single. The song won him a Grammy in 2005 for Song of the Year. That same year Mayer also won Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. Mayer's most recent studio album, Continuum, was released in 2006. In 2007 he was nominated for 5 Grammys and won two; Best Pop Vocal "Waiting on the World to Change" and Best Pop Album Continuum. Mayer's impressive career as a musician gained him international fame, he also garners press for his playboy ways. His string of high profile girlfriends included Jessica Simpson, and his most recent love interest Jennifer Aniston. Mayer gained attention for his interest in comedy. He had a half hour comedy special on Vh1 entitled John Mayer has a TV Show, and performed comedy routines in other venues.
