Jorja-An Fox was born July 7, 1968, in New York, NY. She is the youngest child of her Canadian parents. Though she was born in NY, she was raised on a barrier island in Melbourne Beach, Florida. The actress describes herself as "overweight" while growing up, plagued by a gap between her teeth. Despite this, she won a modeling contest as a teen. Soon after she enrolled as a drama student at the Lee Strasberg Institute in New York.

She had several minor roles in the early 1990s, but her career took a turn-around when she joined NBC drama "ER" in 1996. She played the stern vegetarian and lesbian medical intern, Dr. Maggie Doyle. In 1999, she starred as Secret Service Agent Gina Toscano for one season on NBC's "The West Wing." In 2000, she entered her most well-known role as forensic scientist, Sara Sidle, on CBS's "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation." She appeared on the show until Nov. 2007, where she starred in her last episode. It was reported in May 2008 that Fox will reappear for the show's ninth-season premiere in September.

Fox is also a writer, producer and musician. She co-founded an independent theatre company in Los Angeles called Honeypot Productions. Four of the company's five original plays were written by Fox. She also produced a musical called "Stay Forever: The Life and Music of Dusty Springfield." Fox plays guitar and drums, and wrote and sang "Lullabye" for the movie "Traveling Companion." She also sang a duet of "Stand by Me" with her CSI co-star Marg Helgenberger at a charity event.

Fox is an vegetarian and an activist who supports the Human Rights Campaign. She has worked with PETA, who have nominated her for "World's Sexiest Vegetarian," and has a purse named after her by Matt & Nat, which designs vegan purses.
