Sir Paul McCartney MBE, Singer Date of Birth: June 18, 1942 Birthplace: Liverpool, England Signs: Gemini Paul McCartney was born on June 18 1942 in Liverpool, England. McCartney lived in Liverpool with his parents Mary and James, and younger brother Michael. The Beatle began attending Liverpool Institute in 1953, and the next year he met future band mate George Harrison on the bus to the institute. McCartney's mother died when he was in his early teens, after complications from surgery. John Lennon, another future band mate of McCartney, also lost his mother at an early age. McCartney began collaborating with John Lennon's band The Quarrymen. Shortly after, McCartney recruited George Harrison to be lead guitarist of the band. The group changed their name several times, until finally deciding on The Beatles. McCartney and Lennon soon began writing songs together and became one of the most loved song writing pairs of all time. The duo wrote "Love Me Do," "Please, Please Me" and a plethora of other Beatles songs, as well as songs for other artists. After the breakup of the Beatles, McCartney immediately embarked upon a solo career, playing with his band that eventually became Wings. During this period, McCartney wrote songs including "Maybe I'm Amazed" and "Live and Let Die." In 1995, McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr released the first Beatles' Anthology, the following year volumes two and three of the Anthology was released. Queen Elizabeth II on March 11, 1997 knighted Paul McCartney, who then took on the title of "sir." Two years later, McCartney was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for his work as a solo artist. The Beatles had been inducted into the hall of fame in 1988. McCartney is also honored in the Guinness Book of World Records as the most successful musician and composer in popular music history. McCartney married Linda Eastman in 1969 and adopted Linda's daughter from her first marriage. The McCartney's had three children together, photographer Mary Anna, fashion designer Stella Nina, and musician James Louis. Linda McCartney passed away from breast cancer on April 17, 1998. McCartney married Heather Mills a former model on June 11, 2002. They had one child together, Beatrice Milly. The couple filed for divorce in 2006, starting a media frenzy. After a highly publicized trial, the divorce was finalized on March 17, 2008.
