Pink Biography

Pink, Singer

Birthdate: September 8, 1979

Birthplace: Doylestown, Pennsylvania

Sign: Virgo

Pink was born as Alecia Beth Moore on September 8, 1979 in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. From an early age, Pink wanted to be a rock star, writing songs as an outlet for feelings. She joined a local band, Middleground, in high school, and at 16, the R&B trio Choice. The group contributed a song to the film "Kazaam" in 1996, but never released their recorded album. Pink, now going by her stage name, began recording backing vocals for Diana Ross, 98 Degrees, Kenny Lattimore and Tevin Campbell. Finally, she had a single of her own released in 1998 in the UK, a dance track called "Gonna Make Ya Move (Don't Stop)."

In 2000, she released her debut album Can't Take Me Home, which she co-produced. It went double-platinum in the US and produced singles like "There You Go," "Most Girls" and "You Make Me Sick." In 2001, she gained more fame when she recorded a cover of "Lady Marmalade" with Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim and Mýa for "Moulin Rouge!" soundtrack. The video for the song won MTV Video Music Award for Video of the Year.

In 2001, she released M!ssundaztood, which she hoped would convey a new image of herself to the media, who she felt misunderstood her. She did not feel that the image of her Can't Take Me Home music and pink hair represented her well. Going in Pink's own creative direction, the album featured hits like "Get the Party Started," "Don't Let Me Get Me," "Just like a Pill", and "Family Portrait."

In 2003, Pink released Try This, which did not have as much widespread success. In 2006, she released the more successful I'm Not Dead, which contained the hit "Stupid Girls." The album had particular success in Australia. Pink is currently working on a new album, expected in Oct. 2008. The first single, "So What," should hit the airwaves Aug. 18.

Pink proposed to Carey Hart, a motocross racer, in 2005. He accepted and they married in 2006, and then separated in 2008. Pink filed for divorce in February. Pink is a supporter and campaigner for PETA and has been involved in numerous charities like Greenpeace, Human Rights Campaign, ONE Campaign and others.
