Multi-award winning rock band U2 has angered Irish environmentalists with their plans to build a skyscraper in Dublin. The band has been criticized by building heritage group An Taisce for their plans to demolish the Clarence Hotel and redevelop the site through a $200+ million investment program; U2 owns Clarence Hotel.
The organization seeks investigation into the tower which is set to be the tallest building in Ireland.
An Taisce's Ian Lumley says, "Our biggest concern is that the U2 Tower will stick out of the skyline from parts of Georgian Dublin. It could potentially be an incongruous blot on the skyline on the south side of the city,"
He also says the band has ignored the impact of climate change on the tower and it could be affected by rising sea levels due to its position at the mouth of Dublin River.
