Helena Compares Johnny And Tim

December 14, 2007 07:22 am CST

Johnny Depp and Tim Burton are like immature brothers, says Helena Bonham Carter.

Bonham Carter, who stars alongside Depp in her boyfriend Burton's new musical movie "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street", revealed the two men share a childish sense of humor after working on several films together.

She said, "They have a great synergy. They are very like each other. Chosen brothers elected by each other. They have the same sense of humor and share a deep respect. They have grown up together. Working on 'Edward Scissorhands' joined them. They are both introverts, but very flamboyant when it comes to their work. That is their release. They are rebels, anti-authoritarian. They are very age seven in their sense of humor."

Burton added to the USA Today newspaper, "We've been lucky to usually be on the same wavelength and like similar kinds of things."

Although the director finds most musicals "camp", he insists he can relate to "Sweeney Todd".

Burton, who previously worked on animated musicals "Corpse Bride" and "The Nightmare Before Christmas" said, "I just don't go out of my way to see them. They are campy by nature - someone breaking into song. 'Sweeney Todd' is more like melodrama, which I guess is kind of campy, too. Just not in the same way. It's something I can relate to."

Depp, who plays a murderous London barber in the movie, added, "'The Wall' is as far as I would go. Then I ended up in 'Cry-Baby' in 1989. But they got some guy to sing for me. Singing in 'Sweeney Todd' was terrifying. I don't know how it worked out. I would go back and try it again if I could right now."

Depp also jokingly dismissed reports Sacha Baron Cohen used a quilted padding to enhance his manhood in the movie.

He quipped, "He was just very enthusiastic!"

Burton added, "He was very excited to do a musical. We tried to cover it up. But he was just happy to be there."
