Seinfeld Snubbed The Oscars

Comedian Jerry Seinfeld reportedly declined hosting the Academy Awards ceremony. The award-winning actor said he preferred to perform in front of a pressure free audience, since the Oscar environment is known to be a tough crowd.

Allegedly, this isn't the first time Seinfeld has turned down the offer. His frequent rejection was a result to his fear of being invited again to host the night when the organizers become satisfied with his job.

But what appeals to him least is the prospect of performing in front of a crowd of Oscar nominees, whose minds are too focused on winning awards to laugh at his jokes, "If I hosted the Oscars and I did it really well, they would just ask me to do it again. And then again. And again," the Bee Movie actor said.

"There's no upside. I don't know, it's just a weird environment. I'm lucky that I can do things that kind of interest me as a challenge, but everybody there is nervous, you know? They want to win their award." Seinfeld explained. "They're not there to have fun. I like to go in front of an audience that wants to have fun."

The 80th Academy Awards ceremony is scheduled on Sunday, February 24, 2008, and will be hosted by Comedy Central's The Daily Show host, Jon Stewart.
