Raising Children Is "Fatal" For Glenn

Glenn Close says being a single mother almost "killed" her.

The "Fatal Attraction" star, who raised her daughter Anne alone after she split from lover John Starke in 1991, admits she still struggles to balance her home life and her career.

Glenn said, "The line is, 'Children are like clients - they want all of you all the time.' It was actually something my daughter said to me. She must have been about eight. She said, 'Mom, I want all of you all of the time.' And it killed me, because I was a single parent, and I knew that I couldn't give her that. I've always been aware that's the only thing she ever wanted."

Glenn, who is now married to David Shaw, also revealed Anne - who is now 19 - has learnt to cope with having a Hollywood star for a parent.

The 60-year-old actress said, "When you're a kid, you want your parent home, and you want them home even when you're not. And that's one of the securities you can give your child. When the parent is always going away, it sets up a different dynamic."

"Thank God, I have this rather old-soul, fabulous daughter who has always been able to articulate it. When she gets angry, she says what makes her angry. So, I think we've survived, but it's very, very difficult."
