Dennis Quaid's newborn twins will get the justice they deserve. The California regulators cited Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for placing the twins in danger by giving them 1,000 times the proper dosage of medication. Los Angeles Times reports that the hospital overmedicated a total number of three children with blood thinner heparin on November 18. The Department of Public Health says in a 20-page report, "This violation involved multiple failures by the facility to adhere to established policies and procedures for safe medication use." These violations caused, or were likely to cause, serious injury or death to the patients who received the wrong medication." The hospital has said that a "preventable error" took place with the three patients. "The Department of Public Health's investigation and report of how the heparin error occurred is a confirmation of our own internal findings about the error, which we previously shared last November," chief medical officer for Cedars Michael L. Langberg says in a statement. The state regulators would still decide whether to fine the hospital for the dangerous mistake. Quaid's 12-day-old twins had been overmedicated by the hospital on November 20 of last year. They are in now in a safe condition. |
