Kiefer Sutherland Released From Jail

Kiefer Sutherland was released from jail this morning after completing his 48-day sentence. The '24' actor left Los Angeles' Glendale City Jail at 12.05am after spending Christmas, New Year and his birthday in the facility.

Jail spokesman John Balian said: "Kiefer looked like he was glad to be out. He was wearing a shirt and jeans when he left, and collected whatever personal belongings he originally brought with him."

During his time inside, Kiefer was reportedly a "model prisoner", helping out in the kitchen, doing laundry duty, emptying rubbish bins, mopping up and serving food to his fellow inmates.

Bailan added: "Throughout his stay, he never griped and never complained. He never wanted preferential treatment from the get go, and we respect him for that."

The actor is set to enjoy a short break as shooting on '24' is currently suspended due to the Hollywood writers' strike. Kiefer's arrest in September 2007 was his fourth arrest for DUI. In 1989, he was arrested for DUI and carrying a concealed and loaded weapon, but was only charged with DUI.

In 1993, he was arrested again for DUI, and performed 211 hours of community service, after being given the option of the community service or 12 days in jail. In 2004, he pleaded guilty to one charge of DUI, completed 50 hours of community service, and attended an alcohol treatment program.

He was also sentenced to 60 months of probation, which he violated. Kiefer, 41, has now been sentenced to five years probation. He must also complete an 18-month alcohol education program and attend weekly therapy sessions for the next six months.
