The Spice Girls would love to perform for Nelson Mandela. The girl power group has announced that they would be thrilled to perform for the former South African president's 90th birthday if they were asked.

It was reported last week that Mandela wanted the newly reunited quintet to perform at an all-star concert in London on June 27. The girls responded gamely during their show at Madison Square Garden in New York.

"We're great friends of Mr. Mandela and we would love to perform for him again," Sporty Spice Melanie Chisholm says.

Ginger Spice Geri Halliwell adds: "We were privileged enough to meet the man and he is just amazing."

"He's just an example of strength and humility and if we could be part of that, celebrating his life - wow."

Mandela had first witnessed the Spice Girls perform in 1997 while in Johannesburg. It was also reported that he invited the girls to sing at his 89th birthday celebration last year but Baby Spice Emma Bunton was pregnant at that time.
