"Gilligan's Island" Star On Probation From Marijuana Charge

What would Gilligan say? Dawn Wells, who played Mary Ann on "Gilligan's Island, is serving six months' unsupervised probation after allegedly being caught with marijuana in her car.

Wells was arrested on Oct. 18 while driving home from a surprise birthday party that had been thrown for her. According to the sheriff's report, Wells was swerving and speeding up and slowing down.

The arresting officer, Sheriff Deputy Joseph Gutierrez said he smelled marijuana in Wells' car and asked her about it. The actress said she had given a ride to three hitchhikers but had dropped them off when they began smoking. Half-smoked joints and two small cases used to store marijuana were found in her car.

Wells, 69, was also given a sobriety test which she failed.

On Feb. 29, the actress was sentenced to five days in jail and fined $410.50 and placed on probation after pleading guilty to one count of reckless driving.

Under a plea agreement, the three misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance were dropped.
