"Star Trek" Star George Takei Weds Longtime Partner Brad Altman

September 15, 2008

"Star Trek" star George Takei has married his longtime partner, Brad Altman, in a Buddhist ceremony in Los Angeles Sunday.

The 71-year-old actor, who played Mr. Sulu hit 60s sci-fi series, and his 54-year-old new husband exchanged vows to one another while standing within a circle of yellow rose petals in front of nearly 200 friends.

A Scottish bagpiper led the couple to the reception on the grounds of the Japanese American National Museum. Takei's former co-stars, Nichelle Nichols and Walter Koenig served as the maid of honor and best man.

Takei told People magazine, "All I can remember is what the priest said. That this moment will never happen again. It's something to savor."

The actor had announced his plans to wed Altman in May after California's Supreme Court allowed same sex marriage in the state.
