"Thor" star Chris Hemsworth says he bulked up too much for his role

Las Vegas, NV, United States (AHN Entertainment) - Chris Hemsworth, who plays "Thor" in the upcoming Marvel Comics action film, says he bulked up so much to prepare for the role that he couldn't fit into his costume.
In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, the 27-year-old Australian actor said his costume was too tight when he tried on Thor's armor for a final camera test right before shooting was to begin.
"My hands started going numb... And I started getting pins and needles and you'd touch the skin and the blood wouldn't return to the area so quick," Hemsworth said.
The actor plays the hammer-wielding fictional hero based of Norse mythology.
Hemsworth, who was in Las Vegas last week for CinemaCon, an annual gathering of movie exhibitors, to receive the "Male Star of Tomorrow" award, said that director Kenneth Branagh told him to "pull (the workout) back just a little bit, otherwise it's too blocky."
Hemsworth said he changed his diet and his workout routine and changed his weight training for more cardio exercises.
Before filming began in July, Hemsworth told BuzzSugar.com that he packed on 20 pounds of muscle for the film.
"It was purely eating, eating, eating, working out and working out, trying to sleep as much as you can -- that's the other third of the equation," he said.
"Thor" opens in theaters on May 5.
