"Will And Grace" Star Sean Hayes Confirms He's Gay

March 9, 2010 Sean Hayes

Although he played one of TV's most beloved gay characters, Sean Hayes never revealed if his true sexual preference. But four years after ending his "Will & Grace" sidekick role, the 39-year-old Emmy Award-winning actor confirmed rumors that he is gay.

Hayes previously refused to comment on speculations about his sexuality. No one can say for sure as he plays both convincing gay and straight men on camera.

But on this month's interview with The Advocate magazine, the actor finally opens up, saying, "I am who I am. I was never, in, as they say. Never."

He said that the reason why he never talked about his sexuality before is because it's no one else's business.

And although he was previously reluctant to admit he is gay, he says he never hid that fact. He also thinks that he has done a lot for the gay community. That's why he expresses his irritation over other people who tried to out him in the past.

"I feel like I've contributed monumentally to the success of the gay movement in America, and if anyone wants to argue that, I'm open to it."

"Why would you go down that path with somebody who's done so much to contribute to the gay community? That was my beef about it. What more do you want me to do? Do you want me to stand on a float? And then what? It's never enough."

Hayes is currently with a "special someone" but refuses to elaborate more.
