Actor Ray Winstone Would Cook Christmas Dinner But Wouldn't Wash Dishes Afterwards

December 23, 2008

Ray Winstone cooks Christmas dinner - but refuses to wash up. The "Beowulf" actor enjoys preparing a festive feast for his family but hates cleaning the kitchen afterwards, much to the irritation of his wife Elaine.

When asked if he washes up, Ray - who has three daughters - said: "I'm not doing that. Cooking the turkey is the manly thing to do. It's my special job. I like a big bird because then I get to make a turkey stew afterwards with sweet corn and all that."

He also added he has a cavalier, but effective, approach to food preparation, developed while working away from his family.

Ray, 51, added: "I'm no chef, but I do cook a good joint. Never use a recipe book, just make it up as I go along. I'm away from home a hell of a lot and I've had to learn to cook. Otherwise I'd have to eat out every night, or get takeaways, and I don't want any of that. I make great stews and a good Italian Puttanesca."

Ray's next films, "44 Inch Chest" and "The Devil's Tomb" are expected for release in the U.S. in July next 2009.
