Actress Amanda Peet is saying sorry for calling parents who are opposed to vaccinations parasites. In a recent Cookie magazine interview, she had spoken out for vaccination and how parents are misinformed of the process. She told the publication, "I was shocked by the amount of misinformation floating around, particularly in Hollywood. Frankly, I feel that parents who don't vaccinate their children are parasites." The 36-year-old actress was quick to issue an apology over her own use of the offensive term. She writes in a letter posted on Cookie: "I believe in my heart that my use of the word 'parasites' was mean and divisive; I completely understand why it offended some parents, and in particular, parents of children with autism who feel that vaccines caused their illness." "For this I am truly sorry." Nonetheless, Peet still continues to defend her stance about vaccination. She continues, "I still believe that the decision not to vaccinate our children bodes for a dangerous future. Vast reduction in immunization will lead to a resurgence of deadly viruses." Peet, who has a 1-year-old daughter named Frances Pen, will next be seen in the sci-fi film adaptation of "The X-Files: I Want to Believe," opposite Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny. |
