Amy Winehouse Doesn't Have Emphysema, Dad Clarifies

June 24, 2008

British singing sensation Amy Winehouse does not have emphysema, but rather just "traces" of the disease, her father clears his earlier statement.

Following his daughter's trip to the hospital last week, Mitch Winehouse told the press that Amy is suffering from the early stages of the chronic respiratory disease.

He even told The Mirror that if his 24-year-old daughter goes back to smoking drugs, it would not only ruin her voice, it would also kill her.

However, Mitch clarifies Amy's condition, saying she hasn't really got emphysema.

He tells BBC Radio 1, "Amy really hasn't got emphysema. There's traces of emphysema. Obviously, if she doesn't quit smoking, it's going to get worse, like everyone else... with patience, her lungs will recover completely."

He adds, "With no more inhalation of smoke of any kind, she's going to be absolutely fine."
