Angelina Jolie: Now Is Not The Time To Adopt A Haitian Child

After visiting Haiti last week, Angelina Jolie has sparked another round of adoption rumors. But while the mother of six is open to adding another child or two to her growing family, she says it's not the time to adopt from the Caribbean nation.

The 34-year-old partner of Brad Pitt says that she's "always open to children around the world," but she will not be adopting a kid from the earthquake-devastated country any time soon.

She told CNN, "For somebody who is an adoptive parent, I understand the urge to assist in that way. But now is not the time, an emergency is not the time for new adoptions in any way."

She explained that families have been separated since the disaster struck in the country, so a child may still have living parents.

"We don't know who is an orphan. I've met Haitian women in the Dominican Republic in hospitals who were saying they haven't spoken to their children. They have no cellphones, they have no way to tell their children they're alive. They can't find them."

The Academy Award winner said aid agencies are working to keep families together by setting up a register of survivors.

Talking about adopting from Haiti, she said that "that's not what we're focusing on at this time, by any means. We're not here for that. We're here to see how we can help protect the children in the country and scale up the needs here."
