Avril Lavigne is finally ready to release her fourth studio album. Or at least her record label is. According to the star, she's been sitting on the album for a year and her label is finally letting it off the shelf. The always candid Lavigne reveals that the album has been done for a year but her record label RCA has decided to release the album early next year. "OMG. How nice! Thanks guys," she wrote in a blog posting. It seems it's Lavigne's first real foray into record company politics. The faux-punk pop princess first hit the music scene in 2002 with the release of her first single "Complicated" and the multi-platinum selling "Let Go." She followed that up with "Under My Skin" in 2004, which sold 10 million copies worldwide, and "The Best Damn Thing" which sold 5 million worldwide and yielded the #1 single "Girlfriend." "I have been dying to get back out on the road and do what I love the most... PLAY MUSIC," she said. "I know you guys have been waiting for a long time.....and so have I, but not by choice. I have been sitting with this record for a year now." The album is her first since 2007 and her lead single, which she reveals is called "What the Hell," is the first new material from Avril since she contributed the song "Alice" to the soundtrack for Tim Burton's blockbuster "Alice in Wonderland." The single peaked at #71 on the Billboard Hot 100. "This song is the least personal song to me off this album," Lavigne said about first single "What the Hell." "It's a fun and funny anthem. It has a broad message about personal freedom. It is the most pop track on the record." Save for the single, Lavigne describes the rest of the album as the most "meaningful and special record" she's written. "It's really special to me. I have produced a couple tracks alone for the first time, written solo, with friends, I have pushed myself and I feel proud," she says. Avril is set to shoot the video for "What the Hell" this month and it'll be released in January, while the single is expected to drop before the end of the year. While her pop star career was on pause, Lavigne was busy designing clothes for her label Abbey Dawn and releasing the fragrance Black Star. |
