Blake Lively Explains Why She Doesn't Use a Personal Stylist for Red Carpet Strolls

February 3, 2012 Blake Lively, Justin Timberlake, Marilyn Monroe, Joe, Gossip, Karl Lagerfeld

Gossip Girl star Blake Lively is probably the only hot young actress who manages to dress herself for red carpets without any help from a personal stylist. She's made a few missteps over the past few years, but overall, left to her own devices, she manages to look unceasingly stylish.

But she admitted to Elle magazine this month that she does have some inside help: "When I'm going to an event, I'll send Christian (Louboutin) a picture of my outfit and say, 'What shoes do you think I should wear with this?'"

Must be nice. One imagines she does the same thing with her designing buddy Karl Lagerfeld, who recently made her a Chanel brand ambassador, which explains why she favors Chanel more than all the other designers.

She was styled by Joe Zee, Elle's creative director, for the mag's photo spread that's in the new issue. Lively reportedly arrived at Milk Studios in a sweater, black legging jeans, and tasseled flats. Zee was inspired by Marilyn Monroe's iconic 1952 Hollywood workout portraits.

To get in the mood, Lively listened to Justin Timberlake's "FutureSex/LoveSounds" as photog Tom Munro shot her, while her adorable caramel colored Maltipoo, Penny, watched.

For the final shot -- the one you see here-- the actress wore nothing but Isabel Marant's net shirt over a red linen tank top as she dusted white boxer's chalk from her hands. Her atheletic chic doesn't come cheap: Net shirt, $180, linen tank top, $235, both at Isabel Marant, NYC. See more photos here.
