Bret Michaels Suffers Setback, Has Hole In His Heart

May 21, 2010 Poison, Heart, Bret Michaels

Bret Michaels is having a setback on his road to recovery. The Poison star has been hospitalized with a "warning stroke," with the medical tests revealing he also has a hole in his heart.

A message on his website says that he was suffering numbness on the left side of his body, particularly on his face and hands. After tests were conducted, he was found out to be positive for a Patent Forum Ovale (PFO) or a hole in the heart.

His neurosurgeon Dr. Zabramski said that the good news is that it is operable and treatable. They also think it is unlikely to be connected to the brain hemorrhage he suffered a few weeks earlier.

However, the physician questioned whether Michaels can make it to the live finale of the "Celebrity Apprentice" on May 23 or to the show he is set to lead on May 28.

Dr. Zabramski said, "I realize that Bret wants to make a full recovery so that he can be active with his family, attempt to attend the finale of Celebrity Apprentice and especially get back on the road to continue making music."

"Without a doubt he is determined to get healthy and make a 100% recovery. Medically speaking it is a fantastic attitude both mentally and physically for him to have. However, Bret's brain and body are not quite 100% yet, especially with the hole found in his heart."
