Charlotte Church Promotes New Album On Shopping Channel

October 20, 2010 Charlotte Church, Queen, Bill Clinton

Welsh singer Charlotte Church has promoted her angelic voice on the shopping channel QVC. Fans were able to purchase the 24-year-old former classical songstress' new album "Back to Scratch" for a reduced price of 9.99 pounds [$15.70] ahead of its release date on October 25.

During the two live 30-minute slots for the channel, Church, who was once called the "Voice of an Angel," appealed to viewers to buy her new offering on air. The discounted price includes an exclusive signed photograph.

The recommended retail price of her album is 16.99 pounds [$26.70].

The QVC promo was a surprising move from the singer as she counts former U.S. president Bill Clinton, the late Pope John Paul II, and Queen Elizabeth as her audience.

But Church doesn't regret launching her CD on-air for bargain hunters. She told the Daily Mail, "QVC provides a unique opportunity for the artist to engage directly with music buyers as the performance unfolds."

"It's like being transported back to a golden age when the music was what was important and it is a refreshing experience that I would recommend to anyone."

And if this album doesn't make it to the charts, Church said she won't think about it too much.

"It's all about musical expression - commercial success and sales are very important and always great but they're not the be all and end all anymore."

"I would rather make really great music that I love that's really heartfelt and means something to people, rather than be on the treadmill of commercial music."

Church sang a few of her songs during her appearance on the show. It wasn't revealed how many CDs she was able to sell that time.
