Chelsea Handler reveals she had an abortion at 16

Los Angeles, CA, United States (AHN Entertainment) - Chelsea Handler and her "Chelsea Lately" co-horts may joke about their promiscuous lifestyle and even abortions, but for Handler, it was the truth. The comedian admitted to terminating a pregnancy she was only 16.

"I had an abortion when I was 16. Because that's what I should have done," Handler told the New York TImes. "Otherwise I would now have a 20-year-old kid. Anyway, those are the things that people shouldn't be dishonest about."

While Handler told the New York Times that she had no choice, her experience doesn't mean she sympathizes with the girls on MTV shows like "16 and Pregnant" and "Teen Mom," who have become mini-celebrities for sharing their teen pregnancy drama with viewers.

"We're seeking out such grossness in human behavior and want such mindless entertainment," Handler said. " '16 and Pregnant.' Getting rewarded for being pregnant when you're a teenager? Are you serious? I mean, that makes me want to kill somebody."

Handler is opening up about the truth about her teen years, just as she promotes her new book released this month, "Lies Chelsea Handler Told Me," which is all about the untruths she's told over the years.
