Clay Aiken Disqualifies Himself As Voter After Election Board Probe

December 10, 2009

Clay Aiken has taken his name off the voters' list in North Carolina after probing from the Republicans, who claim he may have illegally cast a ballot in Wake County.

Wake County Republican Party chairman Claude Pope told E! News that the election board launched a probe after learning the "American Idol" alum actually resided in the nearby Chatham County; thus, he had been voting in the wrong district.

The GOP turned their attention Aiken, 31, when the singer criticized them on his blog.

He wrote, "What happened to Wake County Schools?!? Now that I have a kid I am so much more invested and I am EXTREMELY disappointed that so many selfish idiots ran and won seats on the school board. I hope we can get rid of them as soon as possible before they ruin my school system. Idiots."

The Republicans started the probe on the legality of his vote when he made similar comments to a local newspaper, which included his hometown.

While they have no problem with Aiken's liberal views, Pope said it's not the "right thing to do to vote illegally."

Since Aiken disqualified himself as a voter in the district, the board unanimously agreed at a hearing on Wednesday to drop the probe.
