Clay Aiken Remains Private About His Private Life

April 28, 2008

Clay Aiken's personal life is personal, the "American Idol" season two finalist asserts.

Aiken, 29, does not need to answer questions about his private life, particularly his sexual preference, as he doesn't think it's necessary.

He tells Access Hollywood in an interview with Billy Bush, "I think for the most part... people who are living in Omaha or in Charlotte or wherever, they don't want stuff like that pushed in their face."

"I don't think that that's necessary, and that's also not what I'm here for."

However, the singer admits that he has a hard time dealing with the public and media's interest with his private life regarding his sexuality.

He says, "It can be difficult. I think when you get into anything and you're not used to people scrutinizing this that or the other, it bothers you."

"After a while, you kind of just say, forget this, this is not who I am, this is not about me. What I want to do is be a singer, want to be an entertainer, and forget all the stuff."

Aiken is probably the most successful "Idol" finalist in the show's history. He has launched his music career successfully after the show. He is currently playing one of the leads in the Tony Award-winning musical "Monty Python's Spamalot."
