Country Singer Gretchen Wilson Passes GED, Will Take Part In High School Graduation

May 5, 2008

Country superstar Gretchen Wilson has added another award to her already full awards shelf. This one doesn't include singing, however. Wilson earned her General Educational Development exam recently, which earns her a high school diploma.

Wilson, known for her song "Redneck Woman" that spent five weeks at No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs, also earned a 2005 Grammy for that song. Her debut album sold 4.5 million copies.

Despite the awards and hard-earned success, Wilson said she wanted to prove to her seven-year-old daughter that you need an education to be successful. Wilson dropped out of school when she was in the ninth grade.

Now that she has passed the GED, she will don a cap and gown and take part in a graduation ceremony on May 15.
