Country Singer Mindy McCready Says She Did Have An Affair With Baseball Star Roger Clemens

Country singer Mindy McCready has admitted to having a long-term affair with Yankee pitcher Roger Clemens. The affair began when Clemens was with the Boston Red Sox and a married father of two.

The story appeared in the New York Daily News, and McCready says she cannot refute anything in the story. She claims she was only 15 years old when she met Clemens in 1990 while singing in a karaoke contest at a Florida bar.

McCready's father, Tim McCready, told the New York Post that his daughter had an on-again, off-again relationship with the baseball star, but that it did not turn physical until years after their first meeting. He said a physical relationship did not begin until McCready's engagement to "Lois & Clark" star Dean Cane ended in 1998.

Clemens is currently under investigation for perjury for allegedly lying about his use of performance-enhancing drugs. He has filed a defamation suit against his former personal trainer Brian McNamee and the affair allegations could be a complicating factor.

McNamee's lawyer, Richard Emery, told the Daily News that revelations of the affair could have an impact on that case as they might influence the baseball star's claim that his reputation was damaged.

McCready isn't any stranger to being in the headlines, as she was hospitalized after an apparent suicide attempt in 2005. Her boyfriend William McKnight was also charged with attempted criminal homicide when he attacked McCready at her Nashville home and then in 2007 McCready was sentenced to jail time for violating probation from a 2004 drug arrest.
