Diddy tops Forbes' hip-hop's richest artists list

March 11, 2011 50 Cent, Dr. Dre, Diddy, Russell Simmons, Sean Combs, Beyonce, Birdman

Diddy is the richest hip-hop star. The rap superstar, real name Sean Combs, has beaten colleague Jay-Z at the top of Forbes magazine's list of Hip-Hop's Wealthiest Artists.

The Bad Boy Records founder has an estimated wealth of $475 million, acquired from his clothing line Sean John, record label, and Ciroc vodka endorsement. Jay-Z, meanwhile, closely follows with $450 million.

Beyonce's husband topped last year's Hip-Hop Cash Kings, with Diddy just in second place. Now, the places have been reversed, with Jay-Z only at number two.

The Forbes list was formed by taking into consideration the artists' current holdings and past earnings. Only performers were included, which is why hip-hop tycoon Russell Simmons didn't place in the list.

Following Diddy and Jay-Z is Dr. Dre with $125 million. The producer/rapper expanded his wealth with his Aftermath record label, Beats headphones, and HP laptop line.

50 Cent and Birdman are tied at fourth place with $100 million.
