Erin Andrews Suing Hotels Over Invasion Of Privacy

July 20, 2010 Erin Andrews

"Dancing with the Stars" star Erin Andrews is suing several hotels where she was secretly filmed in the nude by a stalker two years ago. The 32-year-old sportscaster has filed legal actions against Marriot International and Radisson Hotels International for negligence, emotional distress and invasion of privacy.

In March, Michael David Barrett pleaded to numerous stalking charges, and was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in jail. Some of the videos he posted online belonged to Andrews, whom he filmed from an adjacent hotel room using a modified peephole.

He tried to sell the videos to TMZ, who declined citing a clear and perverted invasion of privacy. Barrett posted the footage online himself.

Andrews is now suing the hotel groups and Barrett for more than \$1.2 million for the "severe and permanent emotional distress" caused.

Her lawsuit, which names seven hotels affiliated with Marriot and Radisson, claims that the hotel management confirmed to Barrett where she was staying and disclosed her room number without permission, then allowed him to stay in adjacent rooms.

She said in a statement: "I've filed this lawsuit to hold accountable those who put my personal safety at risk and who allowed my privacy to be invaded while I was a guest at their hotel, as well as for actually stalking me and making my most personal moments public."
