Famed Fawcett swimsuit sent To Smithsonian

February 2, 2011 Farrah Fawcett

The famed red swimsuit worn by Farrah Fawcett in a 1976 poster that sold millions will be donated to the Smithsonian National Museum of American History in Washington on Wednesday.

The outfit will be donated by her long-time partner Ryan O'Neal along with numerous other items from her career, including a TV Guide magazine bearing her picture and scripts from her one-season run on the show "Charlie's Angels."

The poster in which Fawcett wore the swimsuit sold approximately 12 million copies.

Fawcett became a fashion icon in the late 70s, and went on to become a serious actress once her stint on "Charlie's Angels" ended.

She died in 2009 at the age of 62 from cancer.
