The Chicago Fashion Incubator Returns With New Chicago Designers

For the second year, the Chicago Fashion Incubator (CFI) will partner with the 900 North Michigan Shops to present a CFI pop up store.

On March 15, CFI is throwing a launch party and fundraiser for its program, pop-up shop, and to celebrate the success of the alumni designers and to introduce the 2011 designers in residence through a dedicated retail store and a fundraiser.

CFI's pop-up store opens officially March 17, and will feature fashions from the six designers chosen for the fourth year of the Chicago Fashion Incubator, a program that provides mentoring so that up-and-coming designers can learn to market and merchandise their creations.

The 2,800-square-foot shop will feature designs from both the new class of designers and CFI alums, who include Kristin Hassan, Christina Fan, Kate Boggiano and Jessica Audey.

The 2011 CFI class of designers includes Concetta Cipriano; Shavonne Dorsey, who designs for plus-size women; Eric Kipp Custom Clothiers men's tailored suits and separates; Kahindo Mateene's Modahnik, who designs a socially conscious womenswear line that highlights the designer's African heritage; Taneasha Prunty's Gidi line of evening dresses and gowns; and Crystal Simms' Crystal B. Designs, an architectural, avant garde line for women.

To help spread the love and support for local fashion designers, the launch of CFI will also debut a limited-edition organic cotton "Made In Chicago" T-shirt designed by local designer Brandon Breaux. T-shirts are $35, and the proceeds all go to benefit the CFI's programs.
