George Clooney, Cristiano Ronaldo may testify for Berlusconi in sex trial

Hollywood star George Clooney and Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo may be called to testify in Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's sex trial, which is to start on April 6.

The premier is accused of paying pole dancer Karima El Mahroug, nicknamed "Ruby the Heart Stealer", for sex after one of his parties. Although paying for sex is not a crime in Italy, but prosecutors claim that Ruby was a minor at the time of the offer.

Italian actress and model Elisabetta Canalis, Clooney's girlfriend is on the list of premier's legal team's 78 witnesses, who are expected called for Berlusconi's defense. "We have proposed George Clooney as a witness on Ruby's claims that both Clooney and Canalis were at a party at Arcore," premier's lawyer said.

Golden Globe-winning actor Clooney has a mansion in northern Italy near Lake Como where billionaire Berlusconi also owns a private villa.

Ruby also told investigating judges that she had sex with football start Ronaldo following their meeting in Milan nightclub in January last year - an allegation vehemently denied by the Portuguese footballer.

The lawyer added that his defense list also includes high-profile celebrities from showbiz world and four Italian ministers. Berlusconi is also accused of misusing his authority by ordering police to release Ruby, who was detained by police in a theft case in May.
