George Clooney Says He Will Not Return To "ER" As Dr. Doug Ross

March 18, 2008 10:57 am CDT

"ER" fans can pull out the tissues before the long-running medical drama ends next year and have a good cry. They won't be dabbing their eyes because the show is ending, but because former "ER" doctor George Clooney has said he will not return for the show's farewell.

Clooney, 46, who starred on the night time drama when he was 33, said during an Entertainment Tonight Canada interview that the rumors that he would return as his character Dr. Doug Ross are false. Clooney said he wasn't even sure how the rumors started.

Clooney said during the interview that he ran into "ER" executive producer John Wells and even Wells said he did not know how the rumor started. The rumor spread like wildfire within one day.

Clooney said he would never discount how important his role on "ER" was to his career. He said during the interview, "I was 33 when "ER" hit, so I have a very different outlook on the way things work. I don't think I was supposed to have been famous. I realize how much of this is luck."
