Godsmack Frontman Sully Erna Settles Car Crash Case

Godsmack vocalist Sully Erna has settled the multimillion-dollar court case filed by the victim of a three-car smash accident in 2007.

The 41-year-old rocker will have to pay 27-year-old Lindsay Taylor monthly payments for decades to come.

On April 11, 2007, Erna's Hummer H3 rear-ended a Toyota Camry in Methuen, Massachusetts, resulting in the serious injury of Taylor, the other vehicle's backseat passenger.

Taylor and her parents, Elaine and Jeffrey, sued the musician for the severe traumatic brain injury she sustained. She claimed Erna was negligent, while Erna alleged that part of the responsibility laid with Eric Sargent, the driver of the car Taylor was riding in.

Erna said Sargent first rear-ended a Honda Odyssey driven by Maureen White. He also blamed the roadway design for the accident.

According to the settlement figures obtained by local newspaper The Eagle Tribune, Erna and/or his insurers are required to immediately pay $3.3 million, which includes $1 million as payment for Taylor, $1.8 million for attorneys fees, more than $170,000 for her father Jeffrey, over $70,000 for mother Elaine, and the rest to various medical expenses.

Taylor is also set to receive $4,637 a month for five years with 3 percent annual increase, $5,492 per month for fourteen years beginning in 2015 with 3 percent annual increase, $9,659 per month for life, guaranteed for 11 years beginning in 2029 with 3 percent annual increase.

Elaine will also receive $710 per month for 20 years beginning 2017.

The parties have agreed to the settlement, but it won't take effect yet until approved by the courts.
