Grandpa Explains Name Of Nicole Kidman's Daughter

Because people are wondering why Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban named their firstborn Sunday Rose when she was born on a Monday, the grandfather volunteered to solve the mystery.

Antony Kidman has revealed to Australia's The Telegraph that he and his wife actually suggested the name to the couple.

He said, "There was a lady named Sunday Reed who was a prominent patron of the arts in Victoria. I have read a bit about Sunday Reed and her husband John - she was a key mover and shaker in the arts around the beginning of the century. The name Sunday struck me as being a nice name for a woman, so my wife and I mentioned it."

The "Moulin Rouge" star and the country singer was in a Sidney Nolan exhibition at the Art Gallery in Sydney before they announced her pregnancy. Nolan had a longtime relationship with Reed, who became his muse.

The exhibition earlier this year had featured a quote about birth, which read, "When you are young you are given a good view of life, because of your closeness to birth."

Nicole was said to be fascinated by the quote.

Grandpa Antony continues, "It was among other names being mentioned but they decided that was the name they wanted."

And as for Sunday's second name, that would be traced back to the other side of the family.

Keith's brother, Shane, told a radio station that "Rose" was homage to their late grandmother who bore the same name.

Sunday Rose Kidman Urban was born on July 7 at Nashville.
