Harrison Ford On Being A Father At 65

April 9, 2008

Harrison Ford says being a father has made him just a "bit less self-centered."

The multi award-winning actor, who is returning to the big screen with his new "Indiana Jones" film, tells Reader's Digest that at age 65, he's enjoying his returning role as a father to partner Calista Flockhart's 7-year-old son Liam.

Ford says, "She's brought a child back into my home. My youngest, other than Liam, is 17. It's a wonderful opportunity to be part of a child's growing up, which is always an endless springtime. You see the blossoming and the growing and the nurturing and the payoff."

"The Fugitive" actor has four children from his previous two marriages. The first two, Benjamin, 40, and Willard, 39, are from first wife Mary Marquard, while the other two, Malcolm, 21, and Georgia, 17, are from second wife Melissa Mathison.

Ford also commends Flockhart for being "the best in the world" when it comes to parenting.

He continues, "She's a mother by choice - she adopted Liam before we met, as a single parent, which is an awesome responsibility to take. She's devoted herself to Liam and has done a really wonderful job raising him."

"I'm happy to now have a part of the job."

With the age difference between his children, the actor admits that his parenting style has changed with Liam.

He says, "Naturally enough. I'm a little bit more mature."
