Heather Locklear Likely To Escape Hit-And-Run Charge

Heather Locklear is likely to escape her latest alleged hit-and-run drama. The "Melrose Place" star, who is currently on informal probation for a previous DUI conviction, was arrested after knocking into a "no parking" street sign on a street close to her home Saturday.

The 48-year-old actress was arrested and released after being cited for a misdemeanor. Law enforcement sources told TMZ that someone heard a crash near North ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, CA around 4 a.m. but that person did not call police until 7:48 p.m.

When officers went to the area, they found a knocked over "no parking" sign. An investigation suggested that the car that hit the sign was Locklear's black BMW. The deputies then went to her home and saw the damaged car.

Her court date is set for May 17.

However, TMZ also reports that law enforcement sources said that it is "unlikely" prosecutors are going to pin the actress down with hit-and-run charges. Although they have surveillance video showing the BMW going into the complex hours after the incident, the driver behind the wheel cannot be identified.

There is also no "approaching proof beyond a reasonable doubt" that Locklear really drove the car and hit the sign.

Locklear pleaded no contest to one charge of reckless driving last year following a 2008 DUI arrest.
