Hollywood Babies' Hefty Price Tags, Are They Really Worth The Millions?

July 15, 2008

Many are wondering why the media is willing to shell out millions of dollars just for the first shot of Hollywood's newborns, but perhaps the answer lies with the public themselves.

Now that the much-awaited birth of the Brangelina twins has finally arrived, the public only has speculations as to how much Knox and Vivienne's first public photo op would cost a willing publication. After all, their big sis Shiloh had commanded a staggering $4.1 million from People Magazine and another $3.5 million from Hello! for the British rights.

And to date, until the Jolie-Pitt twins have sealed their multi-million dollar deal with a lucky publication, the most expensive cover shot is on the March 2008 issue of People magazine with J. Lo and Marc Anthony's twins. Max and Emme commanded $6 million for the exclusive first pics.

But are the little tots worth it? Absolutely. Shiloh's debut shots had sold over $2 million copies, 45% above the average People magazine sells.

And it's not just a short-time miracle; the magazines also vie for the prestige of being the first bearer of all things exclusive that generate a lot of buzz from just about everyone.

Bottom line: the public is interested. For some reasons, people would like to see a glimpse of the seemingly untouchable celebrities' real lives. And if their newborns are the windows to their reality, then the public is very much interested to buy a copy of the magazine. In short, the public appraises how much an A-list baby costs.

But not every celebrities are into child "pimping." When Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick's son was born in 2002, they called the media and let them have their pictures with newborn James outside the hospital. And just recently, it has been reported that Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's daughter Sunday Rose wouldn't also be asking for millions. They allegedly won't be selling her pics to the highest bidder, as everyone thought they would.

Admit it, even if they sometimes (or often) annoy you by being too perfect or just plain irritating, you want to know if their offspring have inherited their good looks.
