Jade Goody's Widower Sentenced To Jail For Assaulting Cab Driver

April 14, 2009

The late Jade Goody's widower has been sentenced to 12 weeks in jail for assaulting a taxicab driver. The 21-year-old reality TV personality, who appeared alongside his wife on the 2007 season of "Celebrity Big Brother," was found guilty last month.

During the hearing, it was learned that Tweed attacked Stephen Wilkins following a night out with friends.

The incident allegedly started when Wilkins asked 50 pounds as fare in advance. Tweed grabbed Wilkins around the throat and threatened to stab him as he drove the vehicle in May last year. He also attempted to apply the hand brake while the car was moving.

Tweed was due to be sentenced last month, but the date was postponed until April 14 to allow him to spend time with his terminally ill wife and attend her funeral.

This is not the first time he was convicted of assault. In 2006, he was found guilty of hitting a 16-year-old boy with a golf club. He served four months of his 18-month sentence before he was released.

Tweed married on-and-off girlfriend Goody on February 22.
