Los Angeles, CA, United States (AHN Entertainment) - Jennifer Hudson hasn't watched an episode of this season's "American Idol."

The former contestant was leaving a Los Angeles airport Wednesday night when she told reporters for TMZ she "hadn't been able to watch."

But during a recent visit on "The View," Hudson, who was one of the top finalists on the show's third season, said the new judges should be "critical" of the contestants.

"I do think it's good to be critical. Because if people tell you you're perfect, you're perfect, you're perfect all the time, you can never grow," she said. "So I love notes. I'm the first one to say please give me notes."

The 29-year-old singer said former judge Simon Cowell was just as hard on her as her sister was when she her growing up.

"Oh, yes. He gave a good dose of what the industry is like. You can't sugarcoat things for people because when they get into it, then they can't handle it. Even with my sister, I grew up around critics, every day all day. So when I got to Simon he didn't have anything on my sister," she explained. "But you have to be that way for this kind of business. I'm sure they're doing an amazing job. But don't leave out the critiques."

When asked how she felt about legendary singer Aretha Franklin considering her as one of the actresses she would like to portray her in a movie, the Academy Award-winner said she would ready.

"I've heard her tell that. I would love to. It would be a honor and a dream come true if I could do that," Hudson said. "Aretha, I'm here."
