Jenny McCarthy Reports Improvement In Her Son's Autism

May 6, 2008

Jenny McCarthy has revealed her five-year-old son's autism has dramatically improved.

The actress is convinced Evan could almost be free of the condition after she made changes to his diet and used alternative therapies.

She said: "After two weeks Evan doubled his language skills. Suddenly I had some hope."

Jenny also revealed that after six months Evan's personality had returned and she was thrilled when she saw him laughing at a cartoon.

She said: "Until then, Evan hadn't really understood anything that was going on. I jumped on the bed, called my mom, and screamed, 'I'm getting him back, I'm getting him back!'"

Evan can now communicate with others so well he attends a mainstream school. Jenny claims Evan became autistic after having an MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) injection when he was 19 months old.

The blonde beauty - who is dating actor Jim Carrey - added to Britain's Daily Express newspaper: "It was like someone abducted my child. I'd had a child with a personality and then he was gone."

"First, he lost his language and social skills then he developed gut problems and became severely constipated. He lost eye contact and stopped being affectionate. He started walking on tip-toes, hand-flapping and spinning in circles. He would line up his cars and sit for hours spinning the wheels."
