Jessica Simpson And The Public's Interest, Is It Only All About Her Personal Life?

July 21, 2008

Now that Jessica Simpson's personal and love life look stable, it's her career that seemingly needs resuscitating.

There was a time when her chicken of the sea tuna blunder was cute, and that her daisy duke shorts look sexy, but now that all of those were in the past, is there any hope to revive Jessica Simpson's waning career?

Although she was already selling records back then, Simpson was not a worldwide success yet. It was not until she starred with then-husband Nick Lachey in MTV reality series "Newly Weds" that she was able to grasp fame at last. Her career skyrocketed after that.

Then, it was her divorce and the many men she was linked to that became tabloid's fodder. But no matter, she was still selling, tabloid headlines not records, and that's all that mattered, right? Although the public's perception of her wasn't exactly held in the most intelligent light, her stupid blonde image actually worked to her advantage.

But she's not in the headlines now. Not for her career, not for her personal life. Everything seems okay with footballer beau Tony Romo, so nothing really is interesting with her nowadays. Although there are the occasional speculations about their relationship, not to mention the embarrassingly bad game Romo delivered when Simpson watched last year, she hasn't been keeping the public's interest for long as of late.

After a critically-panned and commercially unsuccessful pop album, A Public Affair, 28-year-old Simpson is now trying her hands at country music. And word is, she's not doing very well either. Her recent performance last weekend at a country music affair received mixed reviews, with some concert-goers even went far as to say her crossover to the genre is "irritating" and "embarrassing." For the record, her rep denies it, saying that she even received standing ovation after her performance.

So what now for the Texas born and raised girl? Her music and movies don't make an impact anymore. Can she just go back to reality TV since her public seems to be interested only in her controversial life rather than her singing prowess and her minimal acting skills? Whatever she decides to take on next, trust that dad and manager Joe Simpson will be backing her up 100%, just as he always does.
